Habitat home dedication in Haiti
Learn more about Habitat Haiti...
Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving fund, which is used to build more houses.
Since 1999, Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity has built 30 homes for those in need in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties.
In 2007 our ReStore opened, which sells gently used building materials, home appliances, housewares, and furniture that otherwise might end up in a landfill. Revenue generated from the sale of items donated to the ReStore, since the opening has allowed us to cover the construction costs of five homes and purchase of two lots!
