In the 2021 building season, we will begin building another home in Charlevoix County at our East Jordan lot. Our Habitat Affiliate was able to purchase the East Jordan property last year with the help of a grant from the Charlevoix County Community Foundation. This home will be a modular-style build, similar to the ones placed in Oden and Alanson this past winter. This home, which will be a 3 bed, one bath home, will then be purchased by a Charlevoix County Program Partner upon its completion.
This year, our 100 for $100 Plus Campaign will focus on raising money to lay the foundation of the East Jordan home and will give us an opportunity to highlight our Charlevoix County partners! The 100 for $100 PLUS! Campaign will also run alongside the Consumers Energy Power of Home Campaign. Through this partnership between Habitat Michigan and Consumers Energy, online gifts are matched 2:1 by Consumers Energy. That means that any $100 donation you make online at our website becomes a $150 gift to our affiliate.
If this past year has taught us anything, it is that having a safe and decent place to call home is one of the most essential pieces to living a quality life. To help bring quality, affordable housing to our community more quickly, NMHFH has started utilizing in-door stick built, modular style homes. With restrictions on the number of volunteers we can have on a jobsite, these homes allow us to continue building in our community with less labor, while still keeping the housing costs down for our partners.
Last year, Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity introduced the 100 for $100 Campaign in response to the state-wide shutdown of schools and businesses. During that time, the Pellston High School Trade Students, who had been building a Habitat Home for a local family, were unable to complete the home build. With our ReStore also being closed, we were temporarily losing one of our affiliate's largest funding sources. Our community rallied behind us, raising over $15,000 to help staff complete the home in Pellston, which was then purchased by the Thomas family in 2020.
