Meet The Team

"Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." - Helen Keller

Sarah Ulrich

Executive Director

Sarah lives her life with this T.S. Eliot quote in mind, "only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go”, and strives to be bold and risk “going too far” in finding innovative housing solutions that will promote socioeconomic development and community health throughout our region. Sarah lives in the Petoskey with her husband Kyle, two young boys, a Great Dane, a miniature Dachshund, and a flock of chickens, ducks and turkeys. She holds a Masters in Administration from the University of Central Florida and Bachelors in Biology from Central Michigan. Over the past decade, Sarah has had a diversified professional background, having worked in biomedical research, business development, academia, and Tribal government, and employs her experience in program development and evaluation, strategic planning, fund development, and management to fulfilling the Habitat mission.

Zac Berquist

ReStore Manager

Zac grew up along the beach of Lake Huron in Presque Isle county. After graduating from Onaway High School in 2007 he attended Northwood University, majoring in marketing and business management. In 2011 he completed the courses necessary to earn his CDL-A license and took to the road working for a trucking company out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. This gave him the opportunity to travel the country. In 2012, wanting to be closer to family and the community where he grew up, he moved back to Northern Michigan and accepted a job at a sporting goods retailer. He quickly advanced his position and gained much experience in retail management, working at two different store locations.

Maranda Taivaloja

Assistant ReStore Manager

Being a frequent shopper for years, Maranda fell in love with Habitat for Humanity and the ReStore long before she began working here. Born in Alpena and raised in Harbor Springs, Maranda grew up with a life long love of resale shopping. She is crafty and outgoing, and has a knack for making things look beautiful and seeing the potential in the donations that come in to the ReStore.

Maranda has a passion for hospitality and helping people, and found that her position at Habitat has allowed her two passions to combine into a dream job. Maranda is a wonderful addition to the Habitat Team and can sum up her feelings on Habitat's mission and her work here with this sentence;

"I have found a home and a future with my Habitat family."

Meghan Mitchell

Donor Engagement Manager

Meghan grew up just south of Sault Ste. Marie in Rudyard, MI. She graduated from Rudyard High School in 2009. From there, she attended college for two years at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, then transferred to Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids. Meghan graduated from GVSU in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. Meghan has a background in banking, finance, and non-profit administration. She brings a positive outlook and attitude with her and is excited to get to know the Habitat for Humanity community. Meghan is passionate about travel and has been to 28 of the 50 states.

Julia Johnson

Program Services Coordinator

Julia grew up in Portland Oregon and moved to Petoskey in 2006, fulfilling a life-long dream of always wanting to live in Northern Michigan. Over the last ten plus years Julia has worked in the veterinary and dog world, currently running her own dog grooming business in Petoskey on the days she is not in the Habitat office. She currently lives on 10 acres with her husband Ben, three young kids, two dogs, and an ever growing flock of chickens. Julia is excited to be a team members at Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity and work with community members to help achieve the life changing experience of homeownership.

Gina Stegehuis

Community Relations Coordinator

Born and raised in Alanson, Gina is a local girl with a deep love for Northern Michigan and a passion for volunteerism. After graduating from North Central Michigan College in Petoskey she set out to achieve her goal of giving back to the community that she loves, and has done so by spending the last several years working for non-profits in Petoskey and St. Ignace. Gina has worked behind the scenes at many of the events in the area that we know and love, such as the St. Ignace Car Show, Truck Show, Antique Tractor Crossing, and Pond Hockey Tournament, the Blissfest Music Festival and Family Camp, and many others. Theodore Roosevelt once said that “far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing”. This statement rings true for Gina, and she is ready to work hard for our Northern Michigan families.

Genevieve Mazur

Adminstrative Assistant

Genevieve joined the Habitat for Humanity team in the Spring of 2019 as the Administrative Assistant, and since starting she has worn many different hats. She has trained in the office and on the construction site and has become a "jack-of-all-trades" at the Habitat office. She has over 10 years in office and data management experience. Genevieve recently moved to the area from Philadelphia, PA where she spent the past 3 years exploring the east coast. Originally from the Detroit area she is familiar with the beauty that is Northern Michigan. She is an avid outdoors person and enjoys spending her off time fishing and hiking with her partner and dogs. Genevieve is excited to be working with such a great organization and have the opportunity to assist in providing services to her community.
